So you better be sure you really want and can afford any car purchase before you sign on the dotted line. Things to do when buying a used car include: * Make a test drive of the vehicle * Have your mechanic do an analysis of major components before purchase. * Make sure your budget can accommodate any payment arrangements proposed. * Check consumer reports for the vehicle you are interested in. * Check with your bank or credit union to determine the "blue book" value of the vehicle prior to purchase. * Make sure that verbal promises made by the salesperson are included in the written contract. * Be sure to read and make sure you understand the financial terms of any contract.
